Step 1: Emergency Contact
Step 2: Inspection and Damage Assessment
Step 3: Water Removal/Water Extraction
Step 4: Drying and De-humidification
Step 5: Cleaning and Sanitizing
Step 6: Restoration

Sewer backups are to be considered an emergency due to the fact that the water may contain viruses, bacteria, and other microbes that cause serious illnesses. Fleming’s Carpet Cleaning certified technicians have specialized training and equipment to quickly and safely clean pollutants like sewage

The Three Types of Contaminated Water:

Category 1: “Clean Water”

Water from a clean source like a broken water line. If left untreated can degrade into categories 2 or 3. Category 1 contaminated water may stem from a clean source such as a broken water supply line or leaking faucet. If not treated rapidly, this water can turn into category 2 or 3, depending on certain factors: length of time, temperature, and contact with surrounding contaminants.

Category 2: “Gray Water”

  • May contain bacteria and viruses
  • Can quickly advance into category 3 if left untreated
Category 2 contaminated water may stem from source such as but not limited to: washing machine overflow; toilet overflow that may or may not contain urine, however not trace of feces are present; and/or dishwasher overflow. Category 2 water is unclean and may cause discomfort or illness.

Category 3: “Black Water”

  • May contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes
  • Water from flooding rivers or sewer backup
Category 3 contaminated water is entirely contaminated and may cause severe illness or death if ingested. Any and all contact should be avoided. Examples include but are not limited to: flooding from rivers, streams or canal, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilette that contain traces of feces, and/or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.
